When You Do All The Things

I spent over 15 years listening to Abraham-Hicks talk about Law of Attraction. I went to countless in person seminars. I went on four Abraham cruises. So much fun! Everything I heard resonated with me. I was an A+ student doing the work, working the tools. And yet… I wasn’t living the life that effort should have yielded.

Same with personal growth.

Same with shamanic journey practice and learning how to work with spiritual guidance.

I didn’t just work at spiritual things, I excelled at them. During one time period in my life I did psychic readings. Before the internet was rampant I had a 1-800 number. I ran ads in papers. I used a telephone with a cord. In recent years someone told me they found the old reading I did for them. I’ll never forget what they said:

“I wish I had listened to the advice you gave me back then. You were right.”

Look, I’m not right about everything and my life is not some Instagram version of perfect or close to it. My point is, I had learned to do spiritual things well and help people, yet my own inner life was still troubling me.

Why could I not implement my own advice just like this client could not implement mine?

I had time periods of what I call “sweet spots” in life, and I was manifesting The Things with better results, but without the effort of gratitude lists, finding a better feeling thought so many times each day, and doing the “inner healing work” I would back slide into fear, anxiety, and confusion.

The Breaking Point We Face When We Dream Big

As my dreams for my life grew larger but my blocks and inability to let them in remained, the stretching point turned to breaking point.

Enter a life breakdown, aka a life breakthrough.

To keep this essay from turning into a book, let me fast forward to say: I found a new way to go about things, stopped doing conscious manifestation for two years, learned how to identify the limiting beliefs I had and step out of them, and began to uncover my Self.

Spoiler Alert: our limiting beliefs are inherited from our parents and our ancestral line.

It wasn’t your dating choices, career choices, or life choices that caused your belief problems. Come to find out there is nothing wrong with you. You, however, may be buried under and tangled up with beliefs that you were born with which are still holding you back from what you want.

Even more brain-twisting: what you want might be a response to those limiting beliefs and not what you really want.

When someone is tangled in a pricker bush do they really want to turn into the Hulk, flex their muscles, and roar? Or do they want to Hulk out because they need to get free of the bush?

If they were not in that bush, what would they really do?

The Peace We Are Looking For

The interesting thing about uncovering the Self is that the Self is peace. Peace of mind. Peace in choices. Peace in boundaries.

This, I think, is the “allowing” Abraham-Hicks and manifestation teachers talk about. This is the eternal present moment Joe Dispenza talks about. This is the self-love Louise Hay helped us reach for. This is Eckart Tolle’s Power of Now.

Scripting, Visualization, Mind Maps and other manifestation tools are great tools, just as the shamanic journey is. If you want to build a house, it’s better to use a hammer than your hand when you need to nail up wallboard.

For relief, insight, healing-on-the-go, and navigating the day, tools are fantastic. For deeply known freedom and joy which equal peace (the basis and point of conscious creation and spiritual teachings) the Self is the key.
